SATs Tuition in South London

Expert KS1 & KS2 SATs preparation with qualified tutors. Small groups, personalised learning, real results.

What Are SATs and Why Do They Matter?

SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) are national curriculum exams taken by children in Year 2 (KS1) and Year 6 (KS2) across England. They assess your child’s ability in reading, maths, and grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS).

For Year 6 students, SATs results are used by secondary schools to set classes and identify learning needs. A strong performance gives your child the best possible start at their new school. For Year 2, the assessments help teachers and parents understand where a child is thriving and where they may need extra support.

Whether your child needs to build confidence, close gaps in their understanding, or push for the highest marks, targeted SATs tuition can make a real difference.

How StudyBox Prepares Your Child for SATs

At StudyBox, SATs preparation goes beyond past papers. Our tutors follow a structured programme that covers every element of the KS1 and KS2 curriculum your child will be tested on:

Maths

Arithmetic, reasoning, fractions, decimals, percentages, times tables, word problems and mental maths strategies.

English

Reading comprehension, inference and deduction, grammar, punctuation, spelling rules, and extended writing skills.

Exam Technique

Time management, question interpretation, mark-scheme awareness, and building confidence under test conditions.

Every child starts with an initial assessment so we can identify exactly where they need support. From there, your child follows a personalised learning plan — not a one-size-fits-all approach.

How Lessons Work

Students attend weekly one-hour sessions at their nearest StudyBox centre. Each session is taught in small groups of no more than 3 students per tutor, so your child gets focused, personalised attention every lesson.

Your child works with the same tutor each week, building a relationship that helps the tutor understand how your child learns best. Lessons combine worksheets, interactive exercises and SATs-style practice questions, all tailored to your child’s ability and pace.

Parents receive regular feedback after each session, so you always know what your child is working on and how they are progressing.

Frequently Asked Questions About SATs Tuition

SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) are national curriculum assessments taken by children in Year 2 (ages 6–7) and Year 6 (ages 10–11) in England. KS1 SATs are teacher-assessed and cover reading, maths and grammar. KS2 SATs are formal exams taken in May covering reading, maths (arithmetic and reasoning), and grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS). Results help parents and secondary schools understand a child’s academic level.

SATs tuition at StudyBox costs £30 per one-hour session for Year 1 to Year 6 students. All lessons are taught in small groups of no more than 3 students per tutor. StudyBox is Ofsted registered, so parents can use childcare vouchers and Tax-Free Childcare to reduce the cost by up to 20%.

Students attend weekly one-hour sessions at their nearest StudyBox centre. Each child works with the same tutor in a small group of up to 3 students, following a personalised learning plan based on an initial assessment. Tutors focus on the specific areas where each child needs support — whether that’s reading comprehension, arithmetic, reasoning or grammar. Parents receive regular feedback on progress.

Ideally, SATs preparation should begin at least 6 to 12 months before the exams. For Year 6 students, starting in September of Year 5 or early Year 6 gives enough time to identify gaps, build confidence and practise exam-style questions. For Year 2, building strong foundations in reading and maths throughout the year is more important than last-minute cramming. However, even a few months of focused tutoring can make a significant difference.

Yes. StudyBox is registered with Ofsted, which means parents can use childcare vouchers and Tax-Free Childcare to pay for tuition sessions. With Tax-Free Childcare, the government contributes 20p for every 80p you pay, up to £2,000 per child per year. This can significantly reduce the cost of regular tutoring.
