Behaviour Policy

Here at StudyBox we pride ourselves in creating a positive learning environment, where students feel comfortable and confident to reach their full potential. StudyBox uses effective behaviour management strategies to promote the welfare and enjoyment of students attending lessons. By working in partnership with students, staff and parents, we aim to encourage socially acceptable behaviour using clear, consistent and positive strategies.

Whilst at StudyBox we expect children to:

• Use socially acceptable behaviour
• Respect one another, accepting differences of race, gender, ability, age and religion
• Develop their independence by maintaining self-discipline
• Actively participate in lessons, working to the best of their abilities and allow others to do the same
• Obey the instruction of staff
• Take care of property and equipment used during lessons
• Ask for help if needed
• Complete homework set after each lesson and bring it to their next lesson
• Enjoy their time at StudyBox

Encouraging positive behaviour

At StudyBox positive behaviour is encouraged by:

• Staff acting as positive role models
• Praising appropriate behaviour
• Sticker rewards
• Informing parents about individual achievements
• Certificates for exceptional accomplishments
• Achievement charts including opportunities to spin the wheel and win prizes

It is inevitable that as students develop and learn, there are times when they need support and guidance to understand that their behaviour is not acceptable. Staff at StudyBox will try to determine the cause or triggers of the inappropriate behaviour to prevent the situation from recurring.

Dealing with inappropriate behaviour

Challenging behaviour will be addressed in a calm, firm and positive manner.

• In the first instance, staff will address the behaviour, giving the student a verbal warning providing the student an opportunity to improve their behaviour.
• Staff will discuss why the behaviour displayed is deemed inappropriate and give the student an opportunity to explain their behaviour, to help prevent a recurrence.
• Staff will encourage and facilitate discussions between students to try to resolve conflicts.
• If the inappropriate behaviour appears to be as a result of boredom, staff will consult with the student to find activities that more fully engage them.
• If the behaviour continues, the child will lose their opportunity to receive a stamp on their achievement chart, spin the wheel or receive a sweet at the end of the lesson.
• Staff will consult with parents to formulate clear strategies for dealing with persistent inappropriate behaviour.
• If the behaviour continues across multiple lessons, a meeting will be called between the parents and centre manager to agree on strategies to prevent the behaviour from continuing.
• We will not threaten any punishment that could adversely affect a student’s well-being (e.g. withdrawal of food or drink).

If negative behaviour persists, after all reasonable attempts to discourage it, StudyBox reserves the right to exclude the child. Very serious incidents including violence, verbal abuse and behaviour threatening the health and safety of others or damage to property are also likely to result in exclusion.
